What Happens When a Contact Is in Multiple Lists?

If a contact belongs to multiple lists and you send a message to each of those lists, they will receive a separate message for each list.

Here’s an example:

Jane Doe has a middle school and high school child. Her contact is added to both the Middle School and High School lists.

  • When you send a message to the Middle School list, Jane will receive that message.

  • When you send a separate message to the High School list, Jane receives that message as well.

Because these are two different groups and two different sends, the contact will receive two messages.

If you wanted to clarify which child is in which group, you can add a custom field.

For example:

  • Middle School Child: John

  • High School Child: Jill
