Getting Started with Custom Contact Fields

With custom fields, you can track specific information about your contacts beyond basic details.

This article will teach you how to manually create a custom contact field.

You can also add custom field columns to your contact sheet before importing it into TextSpot.

Choose from these field types:

  • Text: Perfect for names, notes, or any free-form text.

  • Number: Track quantities, amounts, or other numeric values.

  • Date: Ideal for birthdays, anniversaries, or deadlines.

  • URL: Include website links that are automatically shortened with the TextSpot link shortener, with link clicks tracked for each contact.

  • Address: Capture physical locations with proper formatting.

Each custom field you create will be available for all your contacts.

Here are the steps to manually create a custom field:

  1. You can find and create custom contact fields on the left-hand side of the TextSpot application under Recipients - Contacts.

  2. Select "Create Custom Field"

  3. Name the custom field you are creating and select the field type via the drop-down menu.

This example shows a number field type named "Inventory."

Note that for number field types you are able to show the decimal places by checking the box next to "Show decimal places."

  4. Once you are satisfied with the custom field name and type, select "Submit."

  5. After submitting your new custom field, you will be redirected to your Custom Field Table.

This is where you can see current custom fields, view how many contacts have that field filled, and delete any custom field.

You now know how to manually create custom fields that will be applied to all contacts.
